What dream car would you choose on retirement (other than a Cali naturally)

That fits exactly with my idea of what a retirement car should be:
1. Enough performance to be interesting without being a licence looser.
2. I could drive to the South of France with reasonable confidence it would get there
3. A car that people smile at rather than make rude gestures
4. Easy enough to tinker with
5. No fear of unexpected six figure bills.
6. Something that is a pleasure just to own without even driving it.
7. Just looking at it makes me think of summer at the seaside.

Ive gone for a recent Morgan Plus 4 for the those reasons - I did consider an Alfa or a TR6 but done have time to do a restoration & don't want to be buying someone else's bodged job.
Alfa or a TR6 ? Lol
Glutton for punishment

I have a TR4 (1962) and an Alfa Giulia Sprint (1963), is that close enough?

Legin, what Alfa is that on the rotisserie?

Genuine UK rhd 1750 spider veloce s1 boat tail. Bought in 2012 as a retirement project. Nearly didnt happen but the events of March this year kicked me into action. Only another 2 yrs to go.

Glorious. Don't stop now whatever you do. (But if you do, there's a brilliant Alfa resto business in Poznan, Poland of all places. Someone I know currently has a Giulia saloon and a 105 Scalino under their tender care. Much cheaper to get them to collect a car from the UK to rebuild, than to get it done here!).

Well spotted John, Huisnish now banned I understand from housing overnighters I am sorry to tell you, no doubt because of Big White abuse - now look at my attached guilty secret! It easily fitted in boot of Jag, and we got home quicker than we would if we had been in the Cali!IMG_3538.JPG

Anything chauffeur driven and looking forward, autonomously driven...
Get in, set the controls ( for the heart of the sun) and sit back with a good book...
I know just the car for you Eddie:

Ah the 'joys' of flappy canvas! Though nice to be driving the Highland roads in such a car.

We were last there in May 2018 during the heat wave and stayed in the new mini-site just back along the road so it was a short walk to the facilities at the Gateway. Even then there were vans parked where you are and the car park too with them crammed in an unsafe manner. Sad to hear

I spent quite a few years overseas on a ridiculous salary (of course many complained as they didn’t appreciate what they had). I was aware I could afford pretty much any car I wanted (let’s rule out the serious top end). For me, once I knew I could afford many luxuries, they became less desirable.
If I needed a car alongside my Beach next year, it would be a simple electric or hybrid, and ideally an electric bike instead.

I a had new Civic Type-R in my early 20s and the Cali I bought early this year was supposed to be a shiny new M3 - my other dream car and theres still that itch to scratch but the Cali is a very different but very much worthy alternative!
Same - I nearly got an F type but sooo glad I got the Cali instead :thumb

Any idea the make of the Top Box, it's stunning..... Dammit I am old!!

It's just a Porsche TechEquipment one if i recall correctly

I'm only 36 and my Employers are currently trying to stop our final salary pension scheme, so my dreams of some exotica at 55 are a bit short lived :Depressed

I have 3 versions of retirement
Porsche
MX5
Polo
I can live with a Polo if I can put my feet up. But an MX5 would be lovely having owned two before. View attachment 69583
Could I tow an MX5 behind the Cali I wonder?
Just moved from MX5 to Porsche Boxster..... can’t stop grinning when I’m driving!

I’m really glad I was lucky enough to spend my career working for an employer with a final salary scheme.

To be fair, I always knew that one day I’d get shafted. The golden age of pensions has long gone. I just hope what they offer to put in place is reasonable.

We always thought this russian 4x4 could be fun. Can even be had as a 4x4 campervan... You can still buy them new, there is a dutch dealership, these days:

I was lucky enough to be on an index linked final salary scheme with my first employer , there for 14 years. When they hit a recession any one with 10 years or more pensionable service were given an extra 10 years as. The idea was that anyone 55 or older could then retire early with full pensions rather than making younger people redundant. 20 years later that boost to my pension pot has made a huge difference & I am now seriously thinking about early retirement.

Good morning,

If I would be able to afford a different car I would love to go for the Discovery.

But like all those dream cars economical and environmental it makes no sense. But one can dream...
