For anybody planning to attend, please note that due to recent flooding in Steventon the airstrip can’t cope with the Dakota. Therefore the venue has now changed to ‘The Squadron + North Weald Airfield’ just off the M11.

That is some venue change, it's not even in the same county, they've been talking about building a reservoir there since we left Didcot in 2003
 
Cambelt and water pump replacement today. Tempted not to bother as the van’s just done 48k miles and so many conflicting views! Better safe than sorry though.

A VW campervan's journey towards a million miles has been cut short when it blew a gasket on the way from Cornwall to the VW factory where it was made.
The van, known as Cecil, which has clocked up close to the milestone mileage with Cornish environmental organisation Clean Ocean Sailing, was on the way to the VW plant in Wolfsburg, Germany.
But a blown head gasket on the A30 east of Bodmin Moor meant the campervan had to be towed back to its home in Gweek for repairs, its owner said.
Steve Green said he was determined to try the trip again to the factory where Cecil was made in 1972.

The van, which runs on recycled chip fat, has been the workhorse of Clean Ocean Sailing since Mr Green brought it over to Cornwall from Australia in 1998.

The trip to Wolfsburg was a dream for Mr Green, who has nurtured the campervan to its amazing mileage, and the journey was being filmed by The Travel Show for BBC News.
But a fan switch next to a new radiator was destroyed by hot exhaust fumes and the engine overheated, leading to the gasket failure and a ride back to Gweek on a pick-up truck.

'Quite emotional'​

"Usually when he breaks down it's because a chip has got caught in a pipe," said Mr Green.
"At least everyone's safe. Cecil is back in Gweek now, I'm putting him in the workshop in a minute.
"I'm going to take the cylinder head off, have it machined, and check for cracks and put them all back together again."
He said he was planning another trip, with his family coming along for the ride.
"This time was a bit of a hurry and as left my six-year-old Simon was cuddling him and saying goodbye to Cecil, and asking if he could come.
"It was actually really quite emotional and it feels like Cecil decided not to go this time, because he wanted his family to go with him."
If you want to see Cecil in action, the van is due to appear on The Travel Show in January.
 
Dressed and shod the van ready for winter and the ski season. Sourced some Davenports the other week, new set of winter tyres fitted at ATS - Goodyears ordered a few weeks ago but see that they now have Khumos available for c.£95 a corner which is an absolute bargain if anyone is in the market - and the Springfields taken off, cleaned and stored for the winter. A bit early tbh but the deal on the Goodyears tempted me to get on with it. Cleaned the van and applied a coat of AG Extra Gloss Protection - not used that before but quite impressed, went on easy and looks good - we’ll see how it lasts.
Not fun as such but strangely rewarding.

Anyway, slightly bumpy crossing today and having a full board bag on the roof sure impacts the mpg but the van going well and we’re heading to warmer climes.
 
The Mountain Weather Information Service had the weather forecast for today in the Cairngorms as 'Upland gales. Cloud lifting, breaks north. Rain later....Difficult conditions developing. Very gusty, on high tops and locally down-slope, gusts may knock you over. Significant wind chill.'

This meant I needed an early start, not a morning drive from Edinburgh. Not a problem, thanks to the Cali. Two more Munros in the bag by 11am.

Nice which hills do you do? We had a an early start for a short window to rock climb here in the west this am before the rain came in about 11am.

Yesterday it was Geal Chàrn and A' Mharconaich. These are supposed to be boring Munros, but it was a reminder that even the boring ones are spectacular.

All hills are spectacular with the right weather and light. Good winter hills those on foot or ski. Are you looking to compleat the munros?
 
Actually over the past few days. Just back from Penzance where the incredible team at Kernow Transporters fitted a third rail to my T6.1 Cali in only a few hours. Also Denise at Jackyards made a matching seat cover for the 5th seat I sourced on eBay.

We can now use the Cali as an everyday car and are not limited to cramming five people into our T-Cross when we go out with friends.
 
Why 225 not 235?
Didn’t know they done 235 use to be 245
225 fits under van no probs, and way cheaper than 245 little better on fuel than the wider ones.
I had them on silver joker too, didn’t buy for the look as have a big muddy bit of land in the cairngorms now and may start little campsite/glamping pods need access to carry out the work etc.

225 are fine just wondering if you had anything in mind that put you off the 235 but if you didn’t no they made them that’s cool I have heard the 235 don’t fit under the rear wheel carrier without alterations to the plastic under tray
 
After our europe trip…started a deep clean of the van, this involved getting everything out of the van, including seat covers, iso-top, everything, first time in a long time….cleaning will take a while.
 
Pressed our Cali into service as our mini removal van. We are renting in Edinburgh pending arrival of first grandchild so needed to get the essentials up here. Everything went in like a dream - Ikea table, two Ikea chairs. Lost count of packing boxes - about 10 medium I think. Ironing board. Loads of what I am told are essential home-making items! Oh and two full size electric bikes on the back. What a great utility vehicle it turned out to be. One thing I did learn. Bikes/bike rack doesn't do fuel economy any favours!
