Just a thought, does anyone actually use their spare wheel? or even inspect the tyre?bought some paint and painted the rusty spare wheel ,plenty of time on my hands.

A bit extreme, when I imported my T4 from Germany 3 years ago it passed customs and Gov transport inspection, spare looked new and fully inflated.
I dropped the spare 1 year later to give it a bit paint, the new tyre was not new by a long way, perished and about to explode, date code was 1999, the van was built July 1999, so I guess it was the original tyre.
Point being tyres have a due date like everything else and with weather becoming hotter rubber & plastics deteriorate faster, any tyre older than 5 years needs inspected regularly.
