Wheels that big a diameter with low profile to keep gearing correct wouldn't be my choice, had rims buckled by pot holes in the past and that was a 50 profile.Nice drive
No It's half of 2.5 plus ET.Thanks mate. So you'd gain 2.5 inches on the
Wheel width and a further 21mm on the ET. Maybe too much. But at least I know now and could measure it to the arch. Many thx. May be the 45 ET is enough.
Not laughed at but bring a chuckle out. don't ask me to explain/translate chuckle. Why do i sometimes feel beeing lauhged at.....
Price difference mainly. Thanks again. Maybe better with 18 x 8 with ET 35 then. Judging from all the info above info as the ET will push it out anyway. I have another question.
How come on performance alloys web site you can order 255/45 or 235/50. For the same 18" wheel.
Because many different tyres will fit several different rims.
There will be an optimum rim width for a given tyre size.
The tyre will just spread out more on a wider rim, i.e. The sidewall will be slightly more rounded.
Think of the total length of a tyre section.
255/45 means the width is 255mm. 45% of 255 is the height of the sidewall. 114.75mm
So two sidewall (inner and outer) equals 114.75x2 + 255 width gives a total length of section of 484.5.
This has to be accommodated over a rim width so a narrow rim will give a higher more bulbous section where as a wider rim will give the opposite.
As stated, the key to optimum performance (apart from sticking with OE) is to match the tyre to the rim.
It's pointless me stating from experience these sorts of aspect ratios will do nothing for comfort because as we've established,
Carlos Fandango's first law of big wheels states 'Bling beat brains'.
Oh and make sure the 'bling' will fit in the spare wheel cradle, because you'll be buying 5 won't you.......?
