So what % off list price is their offer? That's going to be the main way if working out how good it is.
Also are you getting finance? If so you'll get a deposit contribution which is another 'discount'. If not, get the finance anyway and then pay it off after a week or so and you still have the discount.
Worth trying Guy at Preston VW if you haven't already.

The vehicle base price is £35k ish. So guess what I've been offered % wise is around 8% which would tie in to what other folk are getting here. Yes was getting PCP finance too.

Thanks! Have tried Guy but he is away at the mo.

Around 8% is good. You could try for more with the doubt around the roof and the VED being more expensive in April. If you show some wobbles to a dealer they may push a little more.

Yeah good shout re VED. On the quote it says its £800! Surely thats not the annual tax disc cost for a Beach is it?

First year I think it is that! It's then around £400 pa after that I think. Bad eh? There's a thread somewhere which will give accurate info. @hotel california will know where!

@daveyboydanger
Sorry , the treads on ved and uk taxes i do not follow up that much , as i don't understand the uk system....can't have it all....;)

Regarding excise duty _ the only guaranteed future is tax will rise when the politicians require funds. The motorist is an easy target and easy to collect.

The UK VED system changes whenever the Government think they can squeeze a bit more out of motorists pockets.

£800 is for first year then £140 plus £310 for the next 5 years. The £310 is due to the LIST price being over £40,000. The £800 is for emissions level. The £310 is for the value!!
The over £40,000 rate is because the Government think it 'fair' for this to be done to owners who can 'afford' a vehicle over that value:sad

Geez! £400 a year! Lord knows what a Range Rover Sport is then!
Surprisingly the same as a Cali. as it's in the same emissions band.

£3,000 off £35,000 is 8.6%, but earlier you said £3,000 off £43,000 which is almost exactly 7%.

You need to calculate the discount as pre-Vat discount on base vehicle and options.

£3,000 inc. VAT discount on a £43,000 exc. VAT price of £43,000 is 5.8%.

By comparison I have a 14% discount of £5,600 off a £40,000 (exactly, including original option choices) Beach (all excl. VAT, so a £6,720 inc. VAT discount), it is being ordered as a demonstrator, so I will be buying a pre-registered van.

If its of any interest here is a chart, I produced a few months back when ordering my Cali, of what the new VED means for a 150 DSG Cali Ocean. (I was working out ten years life costs based on no further increase in VED!!)

Ive interpreted the Gov figures differently, After april isn't the first year rate £500 not £500 + £310? and the increased level of tax is for the first five years - you've shown it applying for six. so I make the total £620 less....

Hi Andy, the text from the Gov's web site says......"After the first 12 months, you’ll pay a rate based on the fuel the vehicle uses and an additional rate of £310 a year for the next 5 years." I make that six years but I have been wrong before.

The link to the web site is here - https://www.gov.uk/vehicle-tax-rate-tables/vehicles-registered-on-or-after-1-april-2017

Yes just re-read that above the table of taxes

This link is appears to explain it more clearly, also clarifies that the £310 is not added to the first years tax

That's confusing!

The Briefing document is dated June 2016.

The text in the link I sent in my last post is dated 18th Nov. 2016.

Which is correct?

Sounds like a good deal Roc1. You might get off slightly more using an online broker but they'll just throw the keys at you and let you get on with it.

Where are you based? I bought mine from Chris Figg at SMG Cowfold too.

They are our local dealer so it was a no brainer for me. Top bloke and they offer discounts on accessories and servicing to forum members too.

I think they both say the same thing - I now think I'm right re first years tax being £500 total and you are right re extra £310 for years 2-6

OK, that might be right. Poor comms form HM Gov!

As I understand from my local dealer VW do not permit demonstrators being resold to the Public for either 3 or 6 months (can't recall which) to prevent 'backdoor' discounting.
There are numerous disadvantages in having a second owner vehicle in the eyes of Manufacturers and Insurance valuations plus I don't think you can have replacement value Insurance.
I've bought a preregistered car in the past (50miles clocked). I found out this way.

According to the VW Brochure a Beach 150DSG has an emissions figure of 162 which drops into the (151-170) £500 Band rate for first year VED not the £800 next one up the scale..

from the Brochure all Beach models are £500 as are the Ocean 150 Manual & DSG plus the 204 DSG. Others Oceans all being £800

3 months is correct. The van will be loaned to me until the 3 months is up. It was going to be used as a road demonstrator for up to 3 months, but the dealer is embarrassed that it has taken so long to get a build date: ordered in April last year, should be with the dealer by early March, 11 months later.
