I have offered Albert for sale.

Within 4 hours I have received an offer.

I would never in a million years have believed it could affect me so much. Albert has been a loyal friend, done everything expected of him and more, what is it about a Cali that makes them so much a part of the family?

Never ever could I imagine that a bunch of metal parts could mean so much. However we have been through storms, ice, snow, rock falls .... and all the time I have had the confidence that the plain, boring, 13 year old design, drab, dismal, less than sexy compared to a Marco Polo would get me out of the sh*t. Albert has always performed above the expected, but life moves on.

The saving grace is that Albert will be replaced by a Cali. Something proved, tested, known to rise through the rubbish and be the best.

They really are part of the family aren’t they. I think a camper will always be part of the family because of the adventures that we have on them. I couldn’t believe how sad and upset I was when our previous camper was stolen. Our new Cali brings a smile to my face every time I drive it. Glad you’re replacing Albert with another Cali.

It’s a second home isn’t it, so inevitable that you recall all of the memories it has shared with you.

So much more of a ‘memory generator’ than a typical car. Probably also linked to the fact that most people will link a trip in the Cali with fun / holidays etc rather than just the daily grind.

What have you gone for in your new Cali? Any learning for us newbies in going from your first to your second?

Don't be sad. Albert can now give pleasure to a new owner and take them on more adventures. Good news is you have wisely decided on another Cali. To be honest I looked at lots of others including the MP but none actually are as well thought out or as dependable. Bling is all well and good but we are travellers and adventurers. As such there is no better campervan.

It's been four months since we sold Margot, our 180 dsg 4motion and I still haven't got over selling her. We had so much fun with her and had so many adventures that she become much more than just another motor vehicle. Unfortunately she had to go as we were and still are unable to use such a vehicle as often as we had originally intended and there's no sense in her just sitting there doing nothing for weeks and months on end. However, despite the pragmatic decision to sell, I still feel that we betrayed her and really wish we still had her.

Poor Albert. At least you have given him a good reference!

Albert 2 has yet to be sealed, it was only Saturday morning that I saw the ad. He is a demo, yet to arrive in the showroom, pre price increase, 204 DSG 4 motion. Some things I did not want, such as a heated rear screen, but can live with. Two tone, not my thing but he matches Frieda the caravan. Some details a but hazy, such as no spare,a gunge kit instead, causing me to ask about tyre size.

However I am going for the compromise: not exactly what I want in exchange for it being available soon,

Caution with words I think

Albert is not yet sold and Albert 2 is not yet bought.

However I am discussing, and hopefully closing, the deal on Albert 2 tomorrow and having people travelling 100 miles to look at Albert tomorrow as well.

It was the ad on here. The timetable was 11am saw the ad for A2 and emailed my interest, 1pm contacted by the dealer, 2pm had the full spec in my email, 2.30pm secured my interest with a reservation and placed the ad for Albert on here. 6.30pm, friends had arrived for dinner, a glass of wine in my hand, when the phone rings.

I am trying not to fly a sales pitch here but I think everyone, the world and his wife, know how much fun I have had in Albert and how much trust I have in his reliability and ability to produce whatever is required, why I would recommend a Cali to anyone without reservation.

I've seen your ad for Albert and he's at a very good price so doesn't surprise me he could be sold within 4hrs!
I have very similar spec van but a year newer and manual and have been debating at upgrading. (No competition as I'm a manual driver). Good luck hope it all works out.

Albert will go to a good home. If I am unsure of the prospective buyers then I will not sell him. If the new owners get just half the pleasure out of owning Albert that I have had then they will be well rewarded.

Sadly Albert's first Daughter, Victoria, went on to produce Kaiser Bill Rather ironic that one of Albert's last duties will be to take me to the Menin Gate next Saturday,

Although, as a hint, the name currently in the running for Alberts replacement will be after a Hohenzollern

Having never owned a Cali I can’t begin to imagine how you’re feeling Jen. Albert equates to wonderful times and memories. Hold on to those memories. Thank you both. I have had some wonderful memories with Albert, been to places that I never thought a vehicle could get me to and been in predicaments where I knew that vehicle would look after me, with heat, food, water and shelter.

I only bought the Cali for a two year project. Now 4 years later I am looking forward to the next 4 years.

Wonderful memories.
