Sounds lovely

If you don't like the fancy wheels then we might be able to come to a swap/deal for my standard Ocean 17s when I get my van :)

Hi Jen, your incoming Cali sounds fantastic, can't wait to see some pics. :pinkbanana:cheers:bananadance2

All been a bit of a breathless trip ....

It had been in my head to change for over a year, but more asking "when to change and for what" rather than to change imminently. Flicking through the VW "used for sale" pages and one jumped out at me. 4 hours later I had expressed definite interest to the dealer and put a tentative ad on here. 8 hours later I was contacted in response and 36 hours later had a couple looking over Albert whilst agreeing the deal for Albert 2.

I'm pleased it all happened so quickly, had it not then I probably would of held on to Albert beyond the point where my mechanically dyslexic self could look after him. As any bit of machinery ages so bits work loose or wear out and it takes someone with a bit more than two left hands to keep on top of all those little things.

Sounds like it's all fallen into place, fate perhaps. With a super Eriba and your sister in tow I'm sure many new adventures await. Fantastic :thumb

A Celtic warrior.... Fionn McCool or even his famous wolfhounds Bran ( apparently his favourite) or Sceolan.
A warrior queen should the cali somehow be a lady then Queen Maeve of Connaught might fit the bill.
Agus go neiri an bothar leat..

Thank you, the road has risen up to meet me many times but lot's of cynical nasty people will say that's the wine and me descending to meet the road :shocked

My Paternal Grandfather was Irish, a tinker and jobber, a traveller, and like so many of his generation quite fiercely independent. Happily fight the English for independence but then also happily fight for the British Army, and I will be wearing his MM on the 11th at Ypres. However the Celtic king of legend in this case is English, if you believe Tennyson, or possibly Welsh borders if you believe Geoffrey of Monmouth. However popular romanticism places his centre of power firmly in Cornwall, although many historians believe that if the legend has any basis in fact it is believed to be based on a warrior knight somewhere along the southern welsh borders, not far from where I will be picking the vehicle up from :shocked

Surely not although I did think the GJ did stand for grape juice when new to the forum.
AS for the new colours they look awesome. Class.

Sounds like a great arrangement all-round, and another new recruit onboarded too. Welcome @Erem

Looking forward to seeing some pics, obvs ...

The name has yet to be chosen, there will be a ceremony for that when Albert 2 is brought home, but currently Freddie and Alfred are in first and second place. However Albert was named after a regal figure who was stood solid in support of his Queen, and one only has to go back to the Celtic origins of my own name to find a legendary figure who also was a monarch to a queen ...... :D
On a different tack how about spicing thinks up and going for 'Mellors' ? :thumb

Well, if it was Arthur then surely Guinevere should have her Lancelot

One slight snag though, Guinevere ended up seeking penance in a Convent! I could have nun of that:sad

My Grand parents called all their children names beginning with the letter E My fathers name was Etheldred
with the D in it ----- pronounced Thuldred.
He was always known as Bob, Parents should think hard before naming children!!??
NAMES I always call my Cali "Truck" out of habit ,it is my second one , and last,
I had a VW Syncro for 22 1/2 yearsl during my Forestry Contracting days always called "The Truck",old habits seem to stick.
Granny Gen- I hope your new Cali is a tower ( Eriba ) of strength And I wish you all the best with both of them

Mine is Bertie after Wooster

Oh lovely! staffies are lovely dogs, just sadly sometimes have bad owners that give them a poor reputation.

I hope Agnes proves to have just as fine a pedigree and fulfils all those qualities of loyalty, dependability and toughness.

We have a staffy and have got used to people crossing the road when they are coming towards us, they will also pull their dog away rather than left them sniff each other in the park.

I totally understand why people do this though as when ever there is something in the news about someone being attacked, nine times out of ten they will always say it was a Staffordshire Bull Terrior. Its a shame these awful owners have ruined things for us.

Staffy's, like most terriers, can be hugely territorial and need to be socialised with other dogs at a young age. Too many seem to end up as trophy dogs with owners who have no intentions of socialising, be it their dog or themselves. Lovely dogs when treated properly.

My brother has two rescue Staffordshire Terriers. Brilliant with people but terrible with other dogs due to previous owner. Some people should not be allowed dogs and those who mistreat should be banned for life.

I tend to look at the owners, but do take care with Staffies as it's quite rough in places where I live. Gorgeous dogs & soft as anything if treated well...

Good luck with the new van!

Thank you!

After 4 years of a never-ending kaleidoscope of new adventures and new applications for Albert it is yet another big lifestyle change with Frieda being towed behind. Another interesting few years ahead :D

I have contemplated selling our VW on the basis on lack of use and my wife's wishes not to sleep in her after she was ill most of last year - we never named our Ocean but probably should have called her 'Anna' from the film 'Frozen' because it is Onyx White and also bloody freezing upstairs!

Anna is my daughters name so may be a bit confusing!

I am sure you have made the right decision and new adventures await for you, Albert I and now soon to be Albert II. Albert I can look forward to adventures with his new family who will love and treasure him as you will your new Ocean with more knobs on by the look of the spec!

Go Granny Jen, go and embrace the change since that is what life is, one long series of cyclical changes that come and go with the wind and the seasons!!

Embrace the change and feel happy you made the decision xx

I am confused, Anna is the lovely redhead who is generally warm, her sister Elsa is the blond who is a trifle cool

That's a real shame....i hope you stick with it and that your Ocean does more of what you bought it for finding a place in your life.

I have offered Albert for sale.

Within 4 hours I have received an offer.

I would never in a million years have believed it could affect me so much. Albert has been a loyal friend, done everything expected of him and more, what is it about a Cali that makes them so much a part of the family?

Never ever could I imagine that a bunch of metal parts could mean so much. However we have been through storms, ice, snow, rock falls .... and all the time I have had the confidence that the plain, boring, 13 year old design, drab, dismal, less than sexy compared to a Marco Polo would get me out of the sh*t. Albert has always performed above the expected, but life moves on.

The saving grace is that Albert will be replaced by a Cali. Something proved, tested, known to rise through the rubbish and be the best.
They are lucky buyers. There cannot be a Cali in the world with as much valuable experience nor one as well loved. Good luck with your new one.
