Coronavirus Impact

Not trying to dismiss the seriousness of the message in any way, but it seems to me that the names in the captions are male (Roberto, Lorenzo) when the people they are interviewing are women.
Sky News isn’t perfect, but it makes me question the authenticity of the video

Self isolating now -- as wife has developed symptoms (although otherwise fine).
Van parked up outside the house useful extra mobile office / room.

Actually very useful to have an extra room available in these challenging times.

ps the child seat isn't particularly useful to raise the screen

But are you not part of the problem.
I thought the message was to stay at home.

No. The message is stay at home, go out only for essential buying or exercise, and leave the house for exercise only where you can stay 2 metres or more away from others . Exactly what I was doing even if 3k had to become a 4k zig-zag.

I’m 65 next month. I ride a 214 bhp motorcycle and I drink more than I probably should (not at the same time, I hasten to add) so my chances of living to a ripe old age are probably slim. Ain’t no virus gonna keep me at home. UPDATE - Dislike all you want, just look at the date of the post first. Then look at my more recent posts for an update.
I totally understand this point of view, although it’s not my own and don’t sympathise or empathise with it. If you‘ve no regard for your own life, please don’t risk that of others. No one can assure total isolation. Even preppers who’ve been planning and preparing for many years will run out of resources eventually.

Even if you were to die, you couldn’t just be left to rot, at the very least for other health reasons someone would have come to sort it out.

After spending thirty years in the Fire Service as an operational firefighter, I'm afraid tragedy and black humour often go hand in hand. In my experience it is often used as a coping mechanism. It doesn't make the issue any less serious, it just helps people to cope. It is most important to retain a sense of humour in dark times for this reason.
I agree and ex-military myself. Was just thinking how others may feel and putting it out there to get the opinions of others.

Black human and Bootnecks go hand in hand. I nearly stated a favourite saying, when up against it, that has been handed down by many at CTCRM.

I have every regard for my own life, thanks, and plan to enjoy it to the full, even if that means (as it now does) staying at home. Recognising I’m not going to live forever does not mean I want to die. The post you have quoted was written on the first day of this thread whilst other members were out and about in the U.K. having had overseas trips cancelled and things were very different from how they are now. Out of ten comments left 8 were likes and 2 were dislikes (one of the likes may subsequently have been withdrawn). Most of the likes were left prior to my update where I tried to make my current position clear.

I am amazed any of you are contemplating travelling anywhere. Given our beloved van configuration you will be sharing showers, loos and bathrooms with others - this is high cross infection territory. Stay at home and be safe!
I know - we had plans for France, Croatia, Spain and Portugal again - but probably have to resign ourselves to 2020 being a no show - at best maybe something in Autumn but I doubt it.
Would like to hear from campsite people on their opening plans - or more likely non-opening plans and restrictions.

As far as I can tell the current UK Government exit strategy for the current pandemic is this:

Firewall the over 70s and vulnerable groups by isolating them from the rest of the population.

Try to manage the spread of the virus around the rest of the population by restricting and relaxing social distancing so that the NHS can just manage without the need to make hard choices over ventilator priority.

They are not relying on a vaccine being available anytime soon and are betting that once infected and recovered reinfection will be rare or non existent.

Once there is sufficient immunity among the less vulnerable population the firewall between them and the more vulnerable will be gradually relaxed.

Does anyone have a different interpretation of the exit strategy?
Sounds about right to me.

Camping & caravan club email over the weekend noted sites will take bookings for 50% occupancy only and all amenity blocks are closed. Our booking for Easter in Cornwall has been cancelled as the site is now closed.

High street is closing down. I suspect over the next couple of weeks all campsites will also close down voluntarily.

Its escalating fast and the only option will be to stay home - before the Government force us all to stay home - watching last nights news and seeing how busy north wales and coastal areas is indicating the stupidity and selfishness of so many. It hasn't really hit us hard yet, but it will. The numbers are increasing exponentially on a daily basis.

My Newquay accommodation called me yesterday to say you can come if you want but all our facilities, bars and restaurants are closed. Our planned campsite in Rugby said come and find a pitch and we will come find you to collect payment. We decided to postpone. Newquay said call us within 4 weeks and rearrange for later. No admin charge, but expect to pay more, or less dependent on timing. Sounds very fair to me. Newquay, Aria Resorts. Rugby, Lairhillock campsite, open all year, adults only.

Agree, me too, but sometimes not everyone’s so robust. It is a forum thread and people can freely opt in/out. :)

A bit of perspective on the crowds in Snowden etc. To be fair when you saw pictures of shopping centres etc they were empty. Most were probably trying to do the right thing and will have learnt from this.

Newquay’s “come if you want” response does not follow the governments message of stay at home. Clearly putting profit and wealth before the care of its owners, families or holiday guests. These sites and owners are being shamed locally which sadly needs to be made public. I live in Cornwall and whilst we do rely upon tourism now is not the time for visitors.
