Hello. I've just bought a 74 plate Ocean and loving it. One thing I'm trying to clear up with the dealer, however, is about these two packages. Going through the spec, I see two codes mentioned: Z0V (lane assist with side assist) and 7Y1 (lane change assist). The former works fine and is very helpful when I want to move to a different lane. I have, rightly or wrongly, assumed that the latter (7Y1) is an alert for if I start to drift out of my lane. However, I don't see the option in the Driver Assistance Settings Menu on the infotainment system - menu items for ACC, Front Assist, Side Assist (lane change system) & Driver Alert are shown but no lane 'keeping' assistance menu item. Is it possible that the two codes are just for the one feature, namely assistance when wanting to move from one lane to another? I know there is a lot of discussion in other areas of this forum about this topic but I can't find the answer to this specific question, so any help appreciated

My understanding...

The first one is a "warning" system that warms you if you are going out of your lane - usually with steering nudge backs and beeps. ADAS calls it LKA - Lake Keep Assist.

On my Cali it marks the lines on the road on the screen and rumbles if you try and move out without indicating. My Tiguan used to also steer you back in and keep you between the lines for 15 seconds.

The second is more proactive and helps you change lanes, using wing mirror lights, alerts to other vehicles in lanes your about to move in and in some cases, steering (not VW AFAIK). ADAS calls it Lane Change Assist (LCA). So same as VW naming.

On my Cali this is the lane indicators for cars in your blind spots and/or in front when overtaking and also the wing mirror flash for something in your blind spot.

Thank you - that's interesting. I don't see marked lines on the screen as described in the manual and there is no steering wheel vibration. I do see a symbol on the upper part of the dash display that is always there. Is this something to do with Lake Keep Assist? It is on even if the temperature warning to the right of it is not displayed.

The symbol squared is your individual driving profile mode activated.

You can show the assist options in the screen where it says "No positioning data available" under your assist screen for easier viewing.

From the owners manual :
Lane assist is the lane keeping system, nudging you back into lane unless you have you indicator going, and gives a loud audible alert if you persist on hitting the lane markings.
Side assist also called lane change assist system - is the blind spot warnings on the mirrors.

For Lane Assist you would have a symbol next to the ACC symbol on the bottom of your dash display in the form of two green parallel lines when the system is active, orange when you get too close to the lane marking.

The codes, a few years ago, were,
Z0V - Lane change system ‘Side Assist’
Z0W - Lane keeping system ‘Lane Assist’
Z0X - Lane change system ‘Side Assist’ including Lane keeping system ‘Lane Assist’

To reassure you if you don’t have Lane Assist, it’s not a massive miss, as it’s too sensitive and the audible alert becomes annoying, waking dozing passengers with a start !!

Thanks for clarifying the driving profile symbol. I can view the assist options there too.

Very helpful - thanks. I don't recall the symbol being there but will check again when I next drive the vehicle. Lane Assist isn't listed in the assitance packages menu so maybe I don't have it, despite the code shown in the vehicle specification document (making me think that both codes are for side assist when changing lanes but maybe I am mistaken).

I was also interested to note all the comments people have made about it. It sounds like it had its pitfalls.

Never had an issue

You’re probably correct in thinking both codes are related to side assist. On our van we have the visual warning (amber lights in the mirrors), but also if we try and move out of our lane and a vehicle is coming up beside us, the steering nudges the van back. But as we have Lane Assist I can’t categorically say whether this is linked to Side Assist or Lane Assist.
