Bigger vans

Roseisle (Scotland) did rent westys. Had jokers and others for a few years.
I imagine your best chance is a private rental though.
Private like somebody who has one and willing to lend it me for a week. Big ask isn’t it ?

He is, I’ve tried to reach out on email to Will
Via his YouTube channel.
There was his email on one of the threads.
No response yet.
The user Californiatime is no longer on here nor is campervantime.
I’m guessing he’s not far from me as East Midlands and I’m West Mids.

Watch his videos about the Sven but if you're like me you will already have done :) he says it does drive very like the Cali and for me I just know the whole camping experience is going to suit us more than the Cali does, we did go and view one a few times before ordering

Or perhaps just hire a Crafter for a few days? It seems that driving comfort is the most important thing for you with your back problems so driving a standard Crafter should give you a good idea? If anything the Sven should ride better with the extra weight

Hey Barry what day are you picking your Sven up this week?

I was but I've been told there's been a delay and now it's the end of the month. A few on this site said the dealer/Westfalia are renowned for these sorts of delays.

Damn that's bad news isn't it I expect a delay on ours as well no doubt!

We have been waiting for a camping table from Westfalia for past 2 months!

I did warn you about westy build dates and deliveries, bloody nightmare. Hope you get it soon :thumb

Chances are a standard crafter won't have the same seats as a cali.
Ive driven one with no swivels & less adjustability & one with air suspension just to the seat & they both felt very different.

You did, If I didn't know otherwise I'd have said they were made in Spain because they seem to adopt manana where delivery times are concerned!

Think the factory closes down for the whole of August so hope it falls this side for you.
Apparently the the dealer has ordered 3 and mine and another has already been made but Westfalia has held up the transportation for the final part built Sven so they can get all 3 onto the same transporter. I'm guessing this is to save costs, assuming what the dealer has told me is truthful.

Fingers crossed, just in time for the sun! Any adventures planned

Sounds like a load of old ball cocks to me. The van probably isn’t due until at least September, It’s a great way for the dealer to get a deposit and then to keep dangling the carrot. Great if it does turn up. Hopefully I’m wrong…

They said ours was due at the end of August but I am starting to have doubts now, they said the £5k deposit wasn't refundable if we cancelled so that's a concern.

Factory shuts for August as far as I’m aware so would be surprised if it does. Hope I wrong

I'm pretty sure you'll be alright, they told me my £5k deposit wasn't refundable too. I'm not overly concerned as if it's delayed by more than several months when they said they expected a June delivery they'd be in breach of contract.

Maybe naively I do think this is only a short delay, but time will tell. I previously bought a Porsche (which was cheaper than the Sven) delayed due to similar transportation issues, when I kicked off they paid for me to have a hire car. For some reason the leisure van market seems to work on different standards sadly.

I don’t get why Wanda is £5k and Campersales is £2k deposit.
Guess who would have my deposit.
It’s a couple of train rides away.
And if your circumstances change then £2k is easier to swallow than £5k
A £90k Sven, you are going to keep it for at least a few years? Yes?
Also you can’t predict an unpredictable time frame to base your plans on going away.
If it’s late rent something (not a Sven) but maybe a Grand from Portsmouth ? Or anything from Nick Whale. They got loads in Pershore.
At least it will give you a flavour.
Plans change all the time.
Go with the flow, and don’t get too hung up on getting worried, the Sven will arrive eventually.
Then enjoy it when it does.
I’d love one, but also love my California.
It’s perfect size for just me and what I do at the moment. Wife has said no point having a larger van for just the two of us. Until we retire.
So I’m off the Sven upgrade.
Might travel next year to see the new Westfalia James Cook sprinter 4x4 to drool over it and dream.

Was it really the YouTuber that put you off the Sven :bananadance2

Thanks for that reply we will be keeping it longer than two years for sure and you are right it will come when it comes it's still the best van for us two, I just hope Wesfalia don't close the whole of August as the chap at the dealer didn't tell us that! As much as I looked at a Grand Cali I just can't deal with that hideous lump on the roof it's just plan ugly, I know what you are saying re the £5k vs £2k deposit but that dealer is about 50 minutes drive from home so I thought it would be better dealing with the dealer closest to me.
