California Vehicle Classification & VW UK

VW just rang with their 2 week curtacy call. She said at this stage they will not provide a letter for me to send to DVLA as their investigation in to the issue is still taking place by "Higher Managers" . I asked if they had given the dealers the wrong codes for registering Oceans and Beach's hence the problem, she repeated that she could not comment while the investigation is taking place but will ring me again in 2 weeks.
I've just had the same call, Kerrie I think it was. Told me she had just spoken to someone, that was you then. Same information and would call me on her return from holiday in a fortnight.
Apprantly she cant issue a letter as the situation is more complicated than it would seem.

It would be easier if a representative just posted on here so we were all informed together.

After all the forum is being monitored by VW apprantly.

I think the problem is that everyone on this forum is getting things out of proportion. In a couple of weeks I will be handing over the best part of £60k to VW, so a cheap entry level vehicle. If it was an expensive vehicle then I would have the right to expect the manufacturer to get the paperwork correct, but this is just a cheap, high-volume model for them so no need to sort out this trivial issue. I have owned four Audis as well so that further reduces any expectation that VAG might actually sort this out QUICKLY.

I need my brain examined as to why we are about to hand over soooo much money to a company that can't sort out something so simple. It just dulls what should be a very exciting time.

Well 60K may be cheap to you, buts sounds a little condescending, and if so cheap why not spend more?

Had a missed call and message from Kerry, will hopefully speak to her later before her hols.

Let’s stay positive, we are getting a response from VW and will hopefully get a solution, it is quite obvious they are aware of this thread and know the issue is escalating, they have acknowledged the issue and are in contact with a good few of us so only fair to give them a chance to sort it.

I'm sure VW, like any other corporate company these days, are very careful about jumping onto potential admission of liability or offering wrong advice. They will have 'specialists' looking at this before giving out any well considered correspondence on the matter, which may take some time.

Second biggest purchase we have ever made, after the house. We have discussed whether spending this amount of money is the right thing to do until the cows come home. Our kids are 7 & 5 and they are going to go nuts when they come home from school to find a shiny new van on the drive in a couple of weeks.

We just want to get excited about how we are going to store stuff, and all the trips we can do without having to plan every stop. I don't want to get bogged down in whether my vehicle is classified as an "MPV" or a "motorhome" on some form. We know what it really is, a great way to spend time with our kids before they hit the teenage years.

PLEASE VW, sort it out!

Don't worry about it then!

Ring insurance company, sort insurance for a VW California Ocean, start using it.

My 2016 has a wrong classification VW sold me a Blackberry coloured van and on my V5 it says it is Mauve.
Who is at fault
VW - VW dealer - DVLC
Personally, life is too short to worry what a new van is registered as on the V5 I have never considered my van a motorhome I consider it a camper van. Now if it was recorded as a tractor that may be an issue!

Mauve or Blackberry has no effect on your insurance offerings however MPV classification does as outlined in the thread above.

I would respectfully suggest you get your V5 amended to read as it should but that is not the issue being discussed here.

I am joining the number contacting VWCS on this matter. I sent an email this morning and await their reply.

I wonder if VW are hiding behind the changes that DVLA have implemented to cover up their error in possibly being involved in providing the wrong Registration Codes to DVLA for MY19 Cali Oceans, how else can it be that MY19 Beach's (as far as I'm aware) are being registered as Motorcaravans

Any bets as to whether they just got it round the wrong way ie beach = mpv and Ocean = camper van.
Thats how they were registered up till about 2013
