Hi Guys

My wife and 2 dogs o_O are looking to purchase a 2nd hand T6 Ocean from the start of next month (I know theirs not many around as they are still a bit new to the market), we aren't in a rush and was wondering if we waited towards to the end of the year would there normally be more people selling, or are more available at the start of the year??

We have a kit car and know that market very well, but the Cali market is all new to us.

Cheers
Tom

Welcome , after summer there sure will be some selling.

If you snooze you loose.:welcome Tom. I think if you are buying second hand / pre-registered you will need to act to view quickly when you spot a van you may want.

Welcome Tom. As the others have said, this time of year they sell like hot cakes, although there's never a huge choice at any time of year.

Maybe worth starting by writing down for yourself the aspects that are absolutely crucial to you, and tell yourself sternly and before witnesses that you're prepared to be flexible on all the other options.

Eg have to decided where you stand on:
- Engine size (150 or 210)?
- Manual or DSG (=VW's version of auto, although I'll be shot at dawn for making that simplification)?
- Do you need 4-Motion (=all wheel drive)?
- Any no-nos re colour?

Beyond that it's mostly about the toys and the bling, most of which can be added after you've bought, eg built-in satnav. A lot of private buyers seem to spec their Calis up to the nines, whereas the dealers' used stock usually includes ex-demo and ex-rental vehicles that are more basic spec - which however in a Cali isn't too frugal, but probably have manual boxes and unlikely to be 4-Motions.

Others on here are MUCH more clued-up than me about the used Cali market, but I hope the above stimulates your planning.

Thanks for all your advice

All noted and taken on board.

How about the " For Sale " section on this site?

I did mention this site ;):thumb

Must haves then as people have asked............................. :embarrased
Auto/DSG
150 or 205 (Prefer the 150 due to the problems I have been warned about with the BiTurbo, i'll get the 150 chipped)
Parking Sensors front and back (Pref with rear camera)
Detachable Tow Bar
Heated Seats (the wife wants these but I think they're standard anyway)

Not sure what problems you're talking about with the BiTurbo... if you mean the excessive oil consumption issue (alleged), that was only a problem on some of the earlier T5.1s.

However a 150 even unchipped has plenty of power anyway - a lot of VW T5 campervan conversions potter round happily on the 102bhp motor.

my tip is to keep an eye on auto trader Gumtree and ebay. people on specialist forums like this know how much they're worth and how popular they are. I know the same is to be said on other sites but occasionally a gem of a bargain will crop up . obviously after summer is best and go for a pre april 2017 model to beat the rd tax hikes

Thanks for everyone's input. Great news we have found a Cali and will be collecting on July 2nd.

The wife is more excited than I am. Just need to get some trips booked in

It was from our local VW Dealer, we saw the van about 2 months ago, its their now ex-demonstrator.

We have just booked into Little Meadow Camp Site, for a weekend away as well, no stopping us now :thumb
