What have you done with your California today?

How are you getting on with your Cinch?
Will use mine for the first time tonight
So ours is the original Decathlon Quechua Base Seconds. They stopped making it inexplicably a couple of years ago. Cinch copied it. It’s possibly the second best thing I’ve bought after the van! It’s so easy to use and perfect for us if it rains or, like this weekend, we want to drive to the beach and have somewhere to chuck everything.

Looks great and practical. Ready for next adventures!
Is the silver foil standart?
Nope.
I’ve added silver foil insulation on both parts of tailgate, as it’s just a standard transporter tailgate with no insulation.
The foil on that side is more to stop any knocks/marks and to cover the toilet holding tank.

Not done anything with it ... but done something to it. Did some preventive maintenance on the sink tap microswitch (it had started misbehaving), Have also added a "How To" resource including a video link in the resources section. The video shows the internal workings of the tap.

Now all good and it is reassuring hearing the click click of the microswitch working away!

Appreciate any feedback on how to improve the document. Link to document below. https://vwcaliforniaclub.com/resources/vw-california-t6-tap-microswitch-maintenance-repair.221/

Dismantled the bike rack and took it to be anodised. I suspect my chances of reassembling this correctly and without swearing are akin to that of a one legged man at an arse kicking contest.

We’ve been designing the new leather seats for our Ocean! Ade from Mid England Retrims is going to make them for us.
It’s taken us virtually all day to make templates of the colour matching inlays.

I’ve just done the same with mine. Ready for powder coating as not found anyone to anodise!

I sent you a PM with the details. It was difficult to find someone who would do it. Places I spoke to could either do nothing smaller than whole aeroplanes or nothing bigger than bicycle spokes - there wasn’t much in between.

We reminisced with our Cali' today.... Picked up 6 years ago today, 29 April 2016, and a quick check of our van log shows we have stayed away in her for a grand total of 207 nights (30 weeks) since then. It would have been more if not for moving house in year 2, and all those pesky lockdowns! Still love getting away on the spur of the moment.

Can you put pictures on when you get it back?

Made some shelving for wardrobe. Thought I’d try to see if we benefit before shelling out on proper ones

Impressive! I wonder why you'd need to shell out....
On the verge of buying the 'proper' ones myself but they are very expensive and yours actually looks a little wider and more practical.
Be glad to hear how you get on with them...

Thanks. Will let you know, at the moment am wondering if the ply shelves are thick enough. Time will tell. I’ve made notes on dimensions and I think I spent £80-90 on them inc paint.

Do you have a copy of the shelf dimensions you could share? We don’t have our Cali yet but plan on making some shelves similar to yours.
