What have you done with your California today?

New Year skiing at Baqueira in the Spanish Pyrenees, all services closed, you can only be outside. Tomorrow a peak with mountain skis.

Converted a filthy 5 seat Beach into a dirty 6 seat Beach in preparation for a “childcare bubble”, including my two boys (5 and 7) and an absent-minded GP’s twin boys (7) who hadn’t realised Monday is an inset day.

An all boy day of fun planned for tomorrow. I’m actually looking forward to it.

Bought 4 new Michelin Crossclimate Agilis last week, and today tried them out in snow and ice for getting to the beginning of our mountain ski ascent. Parked at 2072m, -10C, chains required but I didn’t need them. It’s great when a product does what’s advertised. Port del Bonaigüa, Spanish Pyrenees. I slept and cooked in the van for three days, Camping Aigües Tortes, Esterri de Aneu, 18 euros a day with no EHU. I love the parking heater! No topper or inside liner, and only VW cloth liners for the windshield and front door windows. Top was up for cooking and changing, but I was by myself in the van so I slept downstairs with the upper bed lowered and about 2cm of the sliding cover open to allow ventilation through the vents in the raised top. Almost zero condensation. -15C at the summit, but as the Norwegians say, there's no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothes.9FC55D7E-FF98-4F35-B2CA-E9986BE8AA56.jpeg

Another proper camper...
2wd, no awnings, no toppers, no problem.

Great to hear the Cross Climates being tested and work well.
Had mine on over 2 years and only seen light flurries. Need another winter alps trip to give them a proper test...:thumb

Big mistake!

Drove to Chevening (“grace and favour” residence of Dominic Rabb) with four boys (5,7,7,7) and two dogs.

And set off on a walk. I’ve never seen so much mud.

Sleety rain and a chilling wind on the ridge of the North Downs.

Every boy went splat in the mud at one point or another, some multiple times. One lost his welly in a particularly sticky bit. Some tears, much laughter and even more moaning and groaning “are we nearly finished yet”. But all the frozen fingers and mud splattered bums forgotten after a warm bath and lunch of sausages, chips, beans and Yorkshire puddings.

Dropped off van at tyre place to fix puncture.
Needed a new tyre.
Phoned me to say they had the correct Bridgestone tyre.
Picked up van, they had fitted completely wrong tyre with wrong 99v load rating.
Waited while they put old tyre back on.
Drove back home.

Phoned tyre place this morning, they assured me they now had the correct tyre.
Drove to tyre place, waited 40 mins.
Turns out the had ordered the wrong tyre again.
Drove back home
