UK - RIP Coast, hello 6.1 Beach?

IMO dealers must have been giving feed back to Vw U.K. demand for Cali Beach is massive right now, confirmed a couple of weeks ago during a trip to the dealer, the sales Guy confirmed they could sell all the Beaches they could lay their hands on, only problem is they can’t lay their hands on many!
The sales guy said it does not make sense for VW to offer two “very similar vehicles” such as Coast and Ocean, without offering the Beach at all, as it totally removes the option of “Beach 7 seat MPV / camper” which many many families want !

Good news (for me anyway!). Clearly the live chat operative was severely misinformed!

The lack of a 6.1 Beach in the UK is mystifying. Especially when there a direct competitor in the form of the Marco Polo Horizon (which coincidentally Mercedes don’t hobble with the low powered engine as VW we’re doing with the T6 Beach).

So are new vans back to £1,850?
No, not returned to £1,850. We finally got our new T6.1 Ocean registered as a Motor Caravan this week, with VED of £270.

Yes I was at the dealers yesterday and they were telling me they could sell lots of Beach's (heaven knows why;)) but the Coast isn't selling that well. They said when customers get to a certain price point the Ocean looks to be a more attractive proposition and who could blame them.

Hurray!

sell lots of Beach's

Sorry to be a pedant but lots of folk, especially Ocean owners :) , are being free and easy with there apostrophe's in reticent post's ( and yes all error's are diliberate)

If in doubt maybe leave apostrophes out?

Unless a letter has been left out , in which case the apostrophe shows it ( such as it's =it is )
or there is some kind of possession ( my Ocean's blocked sink, my Ocean's faulty control panel)

This post is not a dig at any one Ocean owner, just lots of apostrophe abuse recently across many posts.

One of the nice things about this forum is that we attract many people for whom English is not the first language and therefore not terribly up to speed with all the nuances of the language so I am sure they could be forgiven.

Equally there are those who did not have the right or privilege of a first class education when young and sometimes, no matter what academic or professional heights they may rise to in later life, still bring with them the baggage of a poor foundation education (yours truly being one of those).

There are also those who struggle with seeing even basic word shapes and for whom merely making themselves understood is an achievement, and I have taught many with such difficulties who have gone on to be excellent scholars.

I'm sure we can be forgiving for grammatical errors that creep into forum posts :)

I totally agree and note that the international members here have a fantastic grasp of English and rarely if ever use an apostrophe badly. It seems it's native language thing, with tomato's for sale, photo's to look at etc.

I had the joy of being taught English in the period when grammar and tenses were dropped in one of those trendy educational phases that come and quietly get dropped later as they didn't work. My school wouldn't have won any prizes either, it was pretty poor.

Education comes in many forms and at any point in life. Learning the difference between stationery and stationary, practise and practice and when to use that bloomin' apostrophe thing can only be useful.

And as some say maybe it doesn't matter but if mentioning it helps someone to finally work out what the ' fuss is all about it can only be a good thing. A bit like learning which way up the Union Flag goes, you don't know you are doing it wrong until it's explained.

But the bigger issue, UK Beaches or no UK Beaches?

Note that Coast is back on configurator, but you don’t have to add much spec to get close to price of an Ocean. Hired a 6.1 Ocean recently and was impressed - how important is an electric roof? Can see arguments either way....

Not important at all, if you plan to keep the van for
many years, go for a manual roof unless you want
to learn about hydraulics and pumps.

Oh dear, was this aimed at me, because l know that my English grammar is not what it should be. As is often pointed out to me by my wife.
However, any faux pas l make when using English grammar pales into insignificance compared with VW's inability to get correct information on their configurator, and issue V55s correctly stating Motor Caravan not MPV.

Most definitely not, and not a rant about grammar as such, just at the way the apostrophe seems to be used a lot when it isn't needed. Strange how ; : / etc. don't ever crop up.

Sorry if my poor grammar offended you. but as the father of a Uni graduated teacher who has just achieved a Masters at the age of 25 whilst holding down a full time teaching job, who regularly pulls me up on my grammar. I don't really care about your observation. Enjoy your BEACH.

No I think it was me!!!

I would consider the Coast if I was to change but would have to change the standard wheels, I think there the same as the Hiline van which to me makes it look a bit like a conversion.

One comment regarding the UK Coast spec.... it comes with 16" wheels as standard, which of course means it has the standard T30 Beach chassis & brakes.

One thing any prospective Coast owner should (IMO) consider is an upgrade to 17" wheels to take the uprated T32 chassis, including much much bigger front discs.
This option seemed to become available just prior to our Beach order & we certainly don't regret opting for the added stopping power.....

Hi - so after many months (years) of thinking about it my T25 is up for sale and I am (was) very close to pressing the button on a new Coast. Been messing around with the configurator over the last few weeks. Went in again this morning to discover that there was no option for the Coast.

I sent a message via the live chat service and got a reply straight away. I was told that....

'the two trims are now Ocean and Beach. The Coast is no longer in production'.

I then asked when the Beach would be available and was told that it was available to order now.

Funny - as I spoke to our local VW Van centre yesterday afternoon (Breeze in Poole who should know what they were talking about) and they didn't mention this at all when I had a discussion with them regarding the Coast. They were telling me that they had no 6.1 stock or demonstrators as the factory has shut during the Spring due to COVID and they were catching up on customer orders. They were expecting new stock towards at the end of August. Perhaps this is very new news.

I know Ireland are now getting the Beach so maybe the UK is following suit. I know this will please many out there if true, although slightly gutted for myself, looks like it might be bak to the drawing board for a used T6 Ocean.

Hope useful.
Most VW dealers have a very poor knowledge of the Calis!! We tried 3 dealers, the first said they are on hold until further notice, the second took our order but then after a week had still not ‘placed’ it as they said the computer would not accept it. They were trying to enter options that did not exist on the Ocean. In the end we canned them and went to a third dealer PHIL at CITYGATE COLINDALE LONDON . He knew the vehicles and options inside out and back to front. Our order was placed within 24 hours and he has kept us updated weekly. We ordered about a month ago and it is now in production with an anticipated delivery day of end of September. The Coast was in production when we ordered. It was a choice of the Coast or Ocean But not the Beach. You will see on the VW website there is no Beach in the UK (I don't think). Anyway, £70k+ lighter we are looking forward to delivery of our fully loaded Ocean soon. My tip is to find a dealer who really knows what they are talking about as these vehicles have complicated options. Some of the options we thought we were going to have we decided not to have for reasons pointed out by the dealer but other options we had over looked we did have having fully understood the benefits. I believe production is now completely normal although there might be a back log. Good Luck.

Interesting. I have recently ordered a coast with standard wheels. Is the benefit of the updated chassis the extra stopping power only? Do you consider the standard stopping power insufficient? Thanks in advance for your thoughts

Chassis is more to do with the max gross vehicle weight (laden). T30 = 3000kgs, T32 = 3200kgs, so allows for greater payload (passengers, camping gear etc),
T32 also has heavier / stiffer springs to compensate for additional load.

Standard brakes will stop you fine provided you don’t exceed vans max laden weight.
