So far on this trip we’ve been in France, Germany, Denmark, Germany and Austria. Detailed regularly updated info from this EC website says who can go where from where. We didn’t reserve anything. You can even go to Norway, which we can’t. What are
We have just cancelled our trip to France and Italy as there now high risk of of the situation changing at a moment's notice, the ferry company has allowed us to change our dates to next year FOC. We then planned to do a few trips in the UK but everywhere nice is fully booked until end of season.

Probably waiting for the global pandemic to end or at least reduce, why people needed to desperately go overseas and cause more problems is beyond me .

We're being positive and heading to Sweden for 3 months: the only country not to have locked down, and now rapidly decreasing infection rates - I'm sure the low population density and highly socially responsible people help. Think we may be the only campervanbfrom UK Sweden has had such alarmist/negative press
Do be careful as once you step into Sweden (with some regional exceptions) you will not be allowed into Denmark, Norway or Finland without quarantine.

I do agree, if you intend to cause problems it’s probably best to stay home.

We know why you feel they way you do but a quote I often remember: The mind has it‘s own place, it can make a heaven out of a hell or a hell out of a heaven.

We plan to head off on the road less travelled and to use our machine for day trips etc. It will all come right.

We just arrived at Southwinds in Cornwall and they are below capacity due to not allowing tents. Fill your boots!

I understand you disappointment and why you think you might as well cash in and sell your cali.... I'll give you five grand for it.. let me know :)

You only have to read the thread on staycations to see why people may wish to go abroad.
Moving between 2 areas of similar risk doesn’t seem irresponsible to me. From where I am in Spain all I can see is people acting carefully & sensibly, masks, sanitizer and spacing all in use, but this area is as different to Benidorm as you could get.
When we left the uk it was in accordance with foreign office advice. Looking at the uk news It looks far safer in this part of Spain than an overcrowded beach anywhere in the uk

Come on you two! You are still alive and loads of opportunities out there. Long weekends after August - there's so much to do. Make your own fun xx

France is nice this time of year. Have you considered that?

How much is your van?

We are still waiting till the last minute to see what is happening first week of September. You only have to look at countries like Australia who have been very strict and now its all come back and under lockdown in Melbourne once again. I dont really want to be somewhere where I cant get home quickly. We have booked a couple of nights at a Pelerine campsite Newent. I think it was £28 a night and hopefully the weather looks good for next week.

You won’t get sympathy from most members haha. But I feel your pain....I live in a tourist spot and I f&&king hate it, ruined by idiots and Londoners in second homes

been to Bournemouth recently, or Snowdonia? Social distancing in the UK??
We went to Bournemouth sandbanks to be precise on the bank holiday weekend when the media reported widely that social distancing wasn’t be adhered to on these particular beaches.

I can say with confidence that from what I experienced first hand was that the media reports were inaccurate.

We arrived at sandbanks around 7.30am walked the dog down the beach had breakfast in the van and sat on the beach till around noon. Found the beach to be well spaced out with the nearest people to us about 10 meters away. We managed to socially distance with no effort. Now I’m not saying that everyone would have done that but we did and the people around us did.

Now i would have expected to see a spike in the following 2 weeks but that didn’t seem to materialise round here so we will be going to the beach again and being sensible when we do

Just a reminder. Political comments, tit-for-tat exchanges, etc....... raise your own threads in the three cocks for that, don't hijack other folks threads.

Yes, I have read a post or two on this site from people in France now (or have been recently) and say things are quite calm there. Friendly locals, not mad crammed on sites, seems idyllic given the 'situation' in some parts of the UK.

I've just spent 4 months in Portugal, traveled back to UK first through Spain and then 2 weeks working my way through France to Calais. This has truly been the best summer to enjoy Europe. Light traffic, easy to find spaces in camp sites, restaurants less crammed, few Brits, uncrowded beaches.

If you are missing this summer in Europe then you are missing a golden opportunity. Probably a once in a lifetime chance.

Before we bought our 'van last year, we used to tour the UK staying in Travelodges. Really enjoyed all out camping trips last year, but for 2020 I will have the coolest van in the Travelodge car park! No shared facilities, and even in August rooms can be cheaper than campsites. You can still make everyday an adventure.

We're just heading vaguely homewards from a couple of weeks on the continent - been through bits of France, Italy, Switz and Germany so far. I'd say things are at this stage pretty normal for this time of year. Some campsites full, but spaces can be found. Typical Jul/Aug really. Only thing missing seems to be Brits - only seen two UK cars since a small clutch of them on A26 on day one, and not one single UK registered MH or campervan spotted since we left UK.

Actually while in the Italian Alps last week we were told it's a tad busier than usual, as it seems more locals have headed to the mountains this year (makes sense really). Stunning drives over the high passes, as ever.

I can't really understand why someone wouldn't come to the continent, no riskier Covid-wise than staying in UK. And in unlikely event any of the countries we've visited suddenly finding itself on the UK quarantine list before we hit Folkestone again on Thurs, well we'd just have to stay at home for 10 days or whatever when we get back. Well, worse things have happened.

Steve, I just booked yesterday for a 2 week Switzerland trip. There are others on here, who are driving around France right now. It is a beautiful world out there and you need to go out and enjoy it.

You mention the situation changing at a moment's notice - is not everything changing around you all the time?

The virus is not hanging around every corner waiting just for you. Be careful, apply abundant caution and you will be fine. Enjoy the trips.

I am sorry, do not know about your personal circumstances, but both me and my wife are working from home, so in case we are asked to quarantine when we return, it is easy to do so. What if Switzerland closes in Sept when we are to travel, I will travel some place else.

Be flexible, be open, enjoy nature, and enjoy the van.
Could not have put it better myself. We have returned from France & Spain. Going to low risk areas and taking suitable precautions.
Remember, infections even in ‘higher risk’ areas around Barcelona were only 44 per 100,000 population when we were there - we travelled around south of France and dipped into the beautiful Rioja region on Northern Spain where they had one recorded infection in the last 3 weeks. Do your research & stay safe.
If you want to live risk free, lock yourself indoors for the next few years until this virus passes...
