France in August?

Pretty sure I read that double-vacs don’t need to quarantine on return to uk? Perhaps I made that up?

Yes , you did make it up!

I believe there is a suggestion that it is one of the ideas being considered for the next announcement.

Glad this thread is now appearing useful.
Even if I’m not going.

And the good news from an expat relative is that PCR tests in France are apparently free to all including British tourists needing them to return. So it’ll just cost you £57 for the outbound PCR test and £146.30 for the 2 & 8 day tests whilst quarantining at home. As long as it stays like that we’re going at the end of August.
Outbound you can use a UK Free Self Test.

Looking like a possibility that UK will have no quarantine on return but daily test which I'm hoping are the free ones. If fully 'jabbed' up.

Just remember that the rules can change / reversed at anytime; So whatever you do, always best to factor in possible quarantine time into your plans depending on your employers HR policy, children's schools etc.

Anyway it’s all bollox, we now have Delta+ heading our way. !!!

England are only mooting that at the moment...and someone on another thread says they were visited by the Covid police to check they were properly quarantining.

Really? According to the useful inbound/outbound info on the Eurotunnel website (see Section 2) "All passengers aged 11 and older (even if fully vaccinated) travelling on our passenger service require a negative result from a non-NHS PCR test taken in the previous 72 hours or a non-NHS Antigen (lateral flow) test taken in the previous 48 hours. At French border controls you will need to present digital or paper evidence of the negative result provided by the test provider".

You also need a self-certified health declaration (see Section 1).

I refer to GOV.UK and French Consulate for my info. on a very regular basis.

i don't use Tunnel crossing which may have their own specific methods/tests available.

Well Switzerland has just announced its latest changes (relaxations) to restrictions.
It now means you can travel back from UK without having to quarantine on return to CH as long as you have a vaccine certificate. That is good news (for me).
I also understand that France does not restrict vaccinated persons from entering from CH, and there is no quarantine either. More good news.
This removes half of the recently imposed pain for us to travel back to UK to sort out our property sale, but means we'd have to likely leave the teenage kids behind in CH since they won't be vaccinated in time.

The UK end of things is still problematic for us given the current rules: entry to UK means PCR test no older than 72 hours, then 10 days quarantine with day 2 & 8 testing - since CH is on the Amber List. Actually that is no change since a while now.

Exit from UK (to France) requires PCR 72 hours (not the 48 hours, this must have relaxed) if vaccinated, as UK appears to be on France's Orange list.

If you're interested, this page has the Swiss update, but you might need to translate it.

How are they going to check that we’re double vaccinated?
I thought that would require access to medical records or vaccine passports that most MPs think are “not very British”. Surely they’re not going to accept that piece of card like the Greek islands did!?
Didn’t somewhere discover 20% were fake.

If you download the NHS app (not the COVID-19 one) it shows your vaccination records and you can obtain and share your NHS COVID pass. It provides you with a 2d barcode / QR code within the app which border control or event managers can scan OR you can generate a PDF copy of your COVID pass.

I was just going over the new rules myself and confirm your conclusion. This is a better (official) link for info in English:
Swiss Corona Rules

In practice, this means that persons who have been vaccinated or who have recovered do not have to produce a negative test even when travelling from countries where the Delta variant is widespread (such as India or the United Kingdom) and do not have to quarantine on entry. The vaccines used in Switzerland are only slightly less effective against the Delta variant and thus still offer a very high level of protection.
Looks like you're good to go :thumb

Takes 14 days from the 2nd jab before it appears on the NHS app.

I'm planning to get to my ancestral home in Italy in a couple of weeks.
Driving the Cali through France and - from what I read now - Switzerland.
Will post when / if I'll get there on any issues.

Bozza and co due to re-classify current amber countries tomorrow I believe in time for school hols. Imagine that!
0.4% infection rate on incoming from amber which is 4/5 of Fcuk all.

Don’t you just love the Bonne Volonte !

of course now that the Delta variant is the latest strain to take hold it’s the UKs fault that potugal, Spain , France and Germany have it, there is no possible way that anyone from Europe could have brought it in or had family / friends that brought it in (just like in the U.K.)

there was no such rhetoric when it was Italy who were passing on Covid to the rest of Europe?

Anger ler  must hate it now that the U.K. variant can’t be blamed, (or indeed called the U.K. variant) instead she blames the U.K. anyway for a variant conceived in another continent and for her ineptitude, what a tw*t

Wait until Tuesday, if that result doesn’t go her way we better watch out for the poison dwarf retribution, which will be swift.

On a site here on the Basque coast this week - compared to a normal season of course it’s dead. But there’s German and Dutch vans here, will wander over for a chat later and see how they got on transiting France.

What has been noticeable by its absence is the convoy of knackered old German plated Merc 709s heading for the surfing spots along the Cantabrian coast. That age group (often youngish couples with two kids and months of maternity leave pooled together) either hasn’t been vaccinated or is saving it for next summer…

Who’s blaming the UK? Portugal opened its doors for UK holidaymakers in May and soon had the highest incidence of delta in the EU. They must’ve known it would happen but thought the trade off was worth it.

I did, it’s the usual jingoistic torygraph twaddle. “Some British sources said they suspect …” - trying to whip up ill feeling where there isn’t any.

Was it just me that picked up on the Delta+ strain. India’s latest export. Way more Covidy than normal Delta. Coming soon to a Northern city near you soon.

see post#446
I’d rather not jump to any anti German sentiment. I was just pointing out that EU might change rules.
I’m not bashing Germany or Merkel.
Covid is the bad guy.
