Bigger vans

Which windows are don’t have blinds?

I believe the front set of windows.
Bit disappointing from a big name like Westfalia.
Without doubt one of the plus points on my old van, when parking roadside.

No built in blinds on the westy jokers and the same amount of insulation as a cali or hymer (very little if any to mention).

Yes think they switched to MAN after 2019 having done a bit of googling
MAN TGE and VW Crafter exactly the same vehicle except for the badges. However if you are purchasing new the options and price are more attractive from MAN. I know, I have bought one specified to my own requirements specially aimed at conversion to a camper.

I'm pretty green to the Crafter/Man piece. Sorry for asking, but are you able to get your MAN TGE serviced at a VW Van centre and it not affect your warranty?

The warranty specialists will, no doubt, be along soon. However as far as I am aware provided genuine parts and the correct specification lubricants are used and noted as so on the invoice any workshop can service a vehicle without affecting the vehicle warranty.
I doubt a VW Van Centre would take a TGE in, it would probably be frowned on by VW UK.
There are lots of MAN workshops and they are often available for many more hours of the week than VW Van Centres as their primary work comes from the haulage industry where time is very precious.
My recent service on the TGE was carried out very early morning, I was on my way back home at 9:30am having arrived there at 7:00am. It took them longer to shift trucks around than do the service!

Thanks Rod, I know you're local did you use the MAN centre in Telford?

Pretty sure a California has no insulation.
In all honesty, I’ve never need it anyway…

Yes I did. It's somewhat of a culture shock for those who are used to the glitz of a modern VW Van Centre. Aquila Truck & Bus Telford is in part of a major HGV transport yard. However my experience of the motor trade back in the late 1960s & 70s fits in well with such a workshop. I drove my own vehicle into the workshop and talked to the technician whilst he did the work (it was only an oil change service). Nice to talk to real mechanics who 'live' in the real world not someone who sits behind a desk and can only quote from a script.
I've been associated with the motor trade almost all of my life although never employed in it and still have friends in the trade. My brother is almost 86 and still repairing classic cars!

Anyone fancy going smaller…?

Anyone fancy going smaller…?

We have actually! Not like that but have pondered converting a Nissan EV200…… it would nearly work for us but the real issue is fitting safe rear set/bed that is fully crash tested on type (as opposed to converting a T4 RnR or RIB seat). Also just a bit tight for me at 6’1”

I wouldnt buy it...but great idea/pitch.

Snap.
Couldn’t live with anything smaller than a T6. Surprising how well he’s done.

We’ve had our Sven Hedin for 18 months now, nonn no issues with the insulation. All the habitation windows are double glazed and have internal blinds. The front windscreen and passenger door windows do not have internal blinds, but this is not an issue, as for these single glazed windows an insulated external thermal screen is much better as it eliminates internal condensation.

I'm really looking forwards to getting mine hopefully in a few months, does this come with an external

....blinds?, sorry posted previous post before I'd finished it!

should come with both unless the ones Campervan time showed were dealer supplied. Btw, the external ones got big thumbs down.
Yes I saw this, wasn't sure if that's because the dealer was particularly generous with them for the coverage it gave them. Also wondered if the same dealer will give a free stay over the day I collect being as I'm a non-celebrity :D ?

What kind of fuel economy are you seeing with the Sven at normal and motorway speeds?

YT celebrity can have its perks.

Yep, external covers get a thumbs down from me too.

I saw an ad for some internal stick on blinds, I'll post a link when it pops up again.
Still a bit of a faff, but at least you won't have to pack away wet or dirty screen covers...
