Coronavirus Impact

Like many I had been planning a road trip with the family over a few weeks of the Easter break. Given most if not all of the trip would include France and Northern Italy this is now a no go. What are other people doing or not doing? Staying put and putting trips on hold or travelling within UK? Cheers
We're doing what our government has asked us to do in staying at home and distancing ourselves. Unlike many others we are in the fortunate position of being retired, so it's not that difficult for us. Apart from the one day a week when Mrs B works in a supermarket it doesn't present many issues for us.

Ours thoughts are with those that have to go to work. We rightly think of those doing a such a sterling job on the front line in our health and social care services but there are also many others doing essential roles. If they were all to stay at home then life would really come to a grinding halt.

We won't being planning any trips or going anywhere until the all clear sounds.

I’m 65 next month. I ride a 214 bhp motorcycle and I drink more than I probably should (not at the same time, I hasten to add) so my chances of living to a ripe old age are probably slim. Ain’t no virus gonna keep me at home.
Errr, I think you missed the point - all the others you may be infecting...?! Not all about you...

Brits travelling in France must carry an attestation which states they are travelling to their main residence ie home. Anyone trying to flout the law will be fined on the spot. Anyway all campsites and hotels will be closed. You should also think seriously about not travelling in the UK. Govt policy will probably be in place locking down all but essential travel by then anyway. Stay at home.
Just returned from France
Wasn't easy as booked for return Friday morning (20th) and got an email Thursday from Brittany Ferries saying all sailings cancelled until at least mid April.
I had a previous headsup from my Daughter on late Tuesday evening saying that they were stopping sailing from the 19th inclusive, nothing to me as a passenger directly. Did a quick phone call and got told no space for your vehicle and then got cut off. Recalled and told to contact again after 9am the next day when office open.
Online attempt to rebook failed with a message to call a prime number. 102 attempts made only get engaged each time.
My wife made nearly 300 attempts to get through on the number given for Customer Services, got through 3 times but cut off an the press button option process. Got through on a fourth time and got put on Muzak for 32 mins when finally put through apparently the operator couldn't hear me and hung up also prime number. Over 3 hours passed by then so went online to search for an alternative and managed to book with DFDS Dieppe Friday 6pm.
Return trip was not very pleasant as all onboard catering was closed as was the shop. We had expected to eat onboard so not prepared. Most passengers trying to keep segregated in the spaces not roped out of bounds. No cabins in use due to Covid-19.
Surprising number of Great Whites returning.

France was strange with total closure of everything other than food outlets. Only safe point for fuel being on Motorways as Garages and their forecourts closed. Only freight on the roads.

A taste of what's coming here. Don't underestimate the impact or make light of it.

Now in self quarantine.

Im glad you got back safe and sound.
I think for the majority of the people here, we can’t understand how bad things will get as it’s so unimaginable.
I’ve just watched a video from a hospital in Lombardy.
Hell is on earth...

I am very disappointed with the irresponsible attitude of some of the club members! To travel for pleasure is just selfish.
Staying at home has little to do with your age. The restrictions on travel are to stop it spreading as well as your own safety. When you leave home you may have no indication that you have contracted Covid19 and you may spread it to an area that has so far escaped it. So please, please stay at home unless you have to go out.

Agree totally with this, and the LBC interview posted above by Granny Jen. My son is a final year nursing student and his partner is a charge nurse in an ICU (intensive care), about to head off for her 12 hour night shift, both on the front line fight against this crisis. They have a one year old son. How dare the irresponsibility of selfish people ‘doing what they want’ put the lives and futures of NHS staff at risk.

I’d say we have about a month /6wks before the gvt enforces staying at home. Only when the NHS is just about to overflow with cases will the quarantine be enforced.
mill be making the most of it for sure this Easter as the following months may be quite grim
Hope not some of us live in our vehicles. Won’t be going “home” anytime soon!

Like many on here we were due to start in the Italian lakes in early may then three months turing Italy and Corsica, now cancelled for Cornwall, any one know of any campsites close to the sea for rock fishing?

Take care all

Better stay at home -- please

Unfortunately then it's people like yourself that will spread this horrible virus and cause innocent people to die, we are gutted and are coming round to the reality of probably not going anywhere soon in our Cali, be responsible and follow the government's advice and only do what is needed, do some people not watch the news and see how this is affecting other countries. What's more important, your holiday or protecting your loved ones until we can finally/hopefully get back to normal

Plans have all been canceled... I wanted a thermal cure in France (I'm French) and it was cancelled, and I had planned to leave for scotland beginning of may.
All canceled, to same my life and others lives too.

I love being with myself and me !

You probably haven’t read my post from today 6 or so above this one. :thumb

I think we ALL will have to put our lives on hold for the foreseeable Future. Booked to go over to Holland and come Back through Spain in September but i really cant see any of that now. Think we will just use the van like it was designed for and park up somewhere quiet in the middle of nowhere for a couple of days..But who knows what restrictions we will have by then.. I came back from Portugal only last week and nobody was even talking about it over there. Then BANG. We are being drip fed with restrictions first schools then pubs, bars and cinemas...Im sure there are some more scary things around the corner.. Took the Van to get an MOT yesterday had to tell the guy not to touch ANYTHING without gloves.. Then left it overnight picked it up today wearing gloves...This is getting everyone totally paranoid..You couldnt have even written a science fiction book like it because people would have said it was too far fetched... I suppose we are lucky we havent got Trump as our leader... God help The Americans..

The other day the head of Tourism Cornwall - Malcolm Bell- invited everyone down.

Old Malc said it would be quite in order for people to come and stay providing that
they were travelling by car, he was against people coming on and using public transport
though.
It was MP Steve Double who was against it, and rightly so.

Anybody caught out and about unnecessarily should be shot in the
lower abdomen.

I’m not sure how I feel about this.
On the one hand I can see her point, on the other it does seem a bit xenophobic a sort of “we were here first” attitude.

If you own a holiday home in a rural area...and I don’t...do you not have as much right to do what you think is best to protect your family as the ‘locals’?

As long as you bring your own Oxygen Supply and ICU bed+ medical and nursing staff.

No, its about population and health service capacity. Out here in the west of scotland health provision is very much less then the cities, some areas not even having a permanent GP in the area and intensive care maybe hours away in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Inverness or Aberdeen.
If, as is very possible you could be asymptomatic and unknowingly bring the virus to the local community it would have a huge strain on local health service. As this has an infection rate approx double of normal flue.

I've got a Niece in Texas and following her on Facebook gives an insight into how fortunate we are with our overstretched NHS.
Apparently asked for Insurance cover details and then told $200 for a test, if one can be obtained. Regardless if fortunate to have health cover or not.

The current situation is more about "responsibilities" than "rights"
