Just got flashed by a speed camera on a dual carriageway in France. Limit was signposted at 110km/h. Had ACC set at 112kmh and was tracking the camera on the app which described it as a "Vehicle Discriminating Speed Camera".

Am I missing something here, before I get a few more tickets?

I’ve been flashed in France on an autoroute where I was right on the limit. Never heard a thing, that was a year ago. I just put it down to the previous rain earlier in the day but I’ve no clue really why it happened. Mercedes CLA back then.

I get a ticket almost every time I set foot in Europe. Don’t stress. It’s just a fine, nothing too big.

Got flashed in a construction zone. Speed limit was 50, I was doing 60. Didn't expect a camera in that section. Thankfully never got a ticket.

Set the ACC to 110km/h to avoid future fines.

You’ll find that since Brexit , no information is shared !
you will not get a fine now!
To support this I’m a serial offender in France post Brexit used to cost me £100 per trip usually in a village where speed limit changed from 50kmh to 30kmh ! Since Brexit I’ve been flashed (by a camera) several times and never received a fine ! Not proud, just the truth

But if you’ve got your French emissions sticker you’ve given them all the info they need they don’t need anyone to share anything.

Just because the camera flashed doesn’t mean you will get a fine anyway.

No sticker !
just because your vehicle has a stupid sticker does not mean the current owners details are correct, they can’t legally issue a ticket based on someone (spurious) applying for a ticket at some point in time, particularly as that applies to the emission, the application applies to the vehicle for life, (not necessarily the legal owner)

We have a Crit Air sticker from 2 years ago, but since then we changed the number plate to a private one. I’m not keen to renew it. I reckon the chances and fine from the emissions police will be less than other misdemeanours !

I got flashed on downhill 110k zone when under that.
It was on section that I use on my way to the Ferry about 5 times per year.
No fine materialised.

On the next trip I realised that it was probably due to being in the slow/crawler lane and HGV's and caravans had an 80k limit.

Kept out those slow vehicle lanes since.

DVLA do not share information with the EU since Brexit, it’s reciprocal

What more is there to say!,!,!,!

I got caught by a French policebike. He escorted me to the nearest cashpoint…was very efficient. Paid the fine and off I went.

The simple answer is don't speed and you will be fine (and not fined).

Well you could tell us who is sharing the information - someone is, I’ve had two tickets in different vans, both registered after brexit. They got my details from somewhere. They got it quickly as well, 3 days from being flashed to the ticket landing on the mat at home.

requiring a formal request

obviously you’ve been a naughty boy

“Countries in the European Union are able to ask the DVLA to supply them with the details of UK drivers who have broken local traffic laws when driving abroad under mutual legal assistance (MLA) rules.”

it’s not automatically shared like it used to be !

stay within local legal limits and no problem!

suspect you were speeding In Spain ?
The thread says France ?

I did wonder if vans had lower speed limit than cars / campervan and maybe the camera had assumed a lower limit and took the picture.

I don't know if you check speed vs gps, but most cars are 2mph off (below), so 3-4km off displayed speed. I'm pretty sure my VAG from 2009 was 2mph below displayed speed. The only car I had in Europe, which was almost correct, was Audi, displayed speed 74mph, actual 73.4mph.

Also, in France there are cameras flashing to check seatbelts, so it's not always about speed.

Got to say driven loads in France and used ACC dead on the limit every time and never been flashed.

As with all these things is it possible it dropped and raised and was missed or dropped due to weather, which is common in Europe, which activated the camera?

ACC set to 112 is likely to be closer to 105 - 108 - use Waze to get the actual speed relative to manufacturer tolerances.

Was it raining? Because in France, speed limits are reeled down when it is raining. 130 on the motorway tot 110, 110 to 90, 90 to 70.

[PREACH MODE]
@Perfectos, @sidepod : I just hate the type of posts that suggest 'do as you like, Woo Hoo all rules, because they won't know how to fine you'. Sorry.
Or setting your ACC too high, knowingly, and then complain about too little leeway when flashed... Come on!
Speed limits are there for a reason. You should adhere to them, ESPECIALLY when you are a guest somewhere. Grow up, be a gentleman, not a jerk.
[END OF PREACH MODE]

At no point did I advocate speeding in any country, I merely stated facts, so stop your “ Preach mode” holy than thou

Welcome to my world. The mother in law is in PREACH mode 24 by 7.

I always try and stick to the limits like most people. However, sometimes one can get distracted or not understand what the limit is at that particular time when abroad and get flashed. It is good to know what to do if caught. I would always pay promptly if i got a penalty letter from abroad. I believe they can escalate quite quickly.

I have to say the French seem to respect the low speeds limits through their towns and villages a lot more than we seem to do.

I got flashed on our last trip in France but was below the limit. No idea why. No letter has arrived and they have all my details thanks to my crit air sticker.
