colour conundrum! question for cherry red folks

I have 3 Cali's. All two tones. I'm only going to mention the lower half colours as that's the business end! Acapulco blue is the easiest to look after. Midnight blue looks amazing especially when the sun hits it but boy it shows up the slightest scratches. It's a nightmare to keep perfect...almost as bad as a black. Cherry Red is ok, I just find it a bit...meh! The White over starlight blue is by far the biggest crowd pleaser. People always want to talk to me about that one!
Hi Darryl,
I note your comments with interest. Our first Cali was Pearlescent Black. As you say that was a nightmare to keep clean, so never again. Our current Beach is in Acapulco Blue. That has been a delight as it always looks good even if it hasn't been washed for ages. However, we've just ordered a new Beach (yet to be confirmed by VW), in Candy white over Starlight Blue. Yes it looks great but your comments about that combo have only served to confirm my suspicions. Living in a hard water area means every calcium water mark stands out a mile. Also, I imagine that being basically a white van with a Starlight Blue over spray on the bottom half, every chip and scratch would show as white? Have We made the right choice I wonder? I really like the Acapulco Blue but our family have said that we should have a change!

Having said that, given your comments about the interest shown, I suppose that the Candy White over Starlight Blue would be a winner when the time comes to sell. I know you should buy a vehicle to suit your own needs and tastes but it doesn't hurt to bear in mind the future resale appeal at the same time.

If you were buying again now what would you go for?

You are on the money Boris. Hard water marks stick out and and chip on the bottom half goes through to the white. However, would I buy another Starlight blue and Candy white combo again.... yes in a heartbeat! In my opinion also choose the chrome pack. It looks beautiful.

Thanks Darryl,
I think that despite my concerns, we will be sticking to plan A, especially as our grandchildren chose the duo colour scheme. I agree about the chrome pack and intend to fit it. However, because it's a Beach the CP isn't an option so the parts will have to be ordered from the dealer, which makes a reasonably priced option into an eye wateringly expensive upgrade. Still it will look the DBs.

What wheels do you have on your White and Starlight van? I love the retro look of the white VW "Disc" wheels with chrome hub caps but again there is the cost issue as well as routine maintenance to consider. They appear to be easy to clean with the caps removed, which is just as well as brake dust on those white rims will need cleaning regularly. They must also require a specialist to carry out any repairs at suitably inflated costs.

thanks. So we are going to go with the indium grey after all that. Do still like the red and the starlight blue, however, for such a big spend would rather be safe and not regret a bold colour choice down the line. what a wimp! consulted son, age 23, and he advised the grey so that clinched it..... thanks for the replies... now on to the comfort mattress which will be another question...hehe

We bought a second hand cherry red beach, not my first choice of colour but everything else was good so went for it. Plus points are it’s very visible, great for narrow country lane driving as people see you coming! The dealer had loads of phone enquiries from people who wanted red while we were there so I wouldn’t worry about resale too much.
We have black wheels which I think works well and there is always the option to wrap the top in white later on as the red/white combination is so classic!
That's exactly why I chose a cherry red for delivery in June. A color that stands out and I can later cover it with wrap if I get tired of it. It also suits the cherry red to be upgraded with the black package. I am very much looking forward to getting the car.

Same for us!
